The good folks at LEGO have produced a suburb line of model train kits. I was happy to find out how well the train runs! There are no dead-spots on the tracks, and the tracks snap together easily and hold together securely. LEGO quality cannot be beat.

Here are some photos of the engine from the LEGO "My Train" set. The engine and rail cars are very detailed.
