Banjo

I have a strong desire to make music in spite of the fact that I have no sense of rhythm whatsoever.

Bluegrass, specifically the sound of the banjo, appeals to me. It's happy and cheerful and you can't help but feel good after hearing it. Kermit the Frog's "Rainbow Connection" solo during the opening sequence of "The Muppet Movie" always makes me smile. I watch the Andy Griffith Show secretly hoping it'll be an episode featuring some pickin'. If Hee Haw was still on, I'd probably watch it.

I've stopped making excuses and decided to give the banjo a go. Wish me luck. If you have any advice for a beginner, I'd love to hear from you.

Based on my research, I think I'll find a Deering "Goodtime 2" 5-string to get started with.

Recordings
I'm making recordings of my playing as a way of tracking my progress and as a way of learning from my own mistakes. If you dare listen, help yourself.

Tunings
A reference for myself that answers questions like "what note is played when I fret this string here?"
