Notes

The first 32 characters, ASCII values 0-31 (decimal), are non-printing, or control characters. Your browser probably interprets these characters as either spaces or little square boxes.

The ASCII code uses only 7 bits. The most significant 8th bit is sometimes used for parity or for proprietary purposes, but there is no standard in place that defines the use of the 8th bit. Therefore, the ASCII table has only 128 entries (2^7) instead of 256 (2^8).
